About Our Firm

Karen West

Karen West was born in Upstate New York and moved to Atlanta to attend Emory University, where she graduated with a B.A. in History. She then attended Wake Forest University School of Law. While at Wake Forest, she developed a passion for criminal law and after graduation returned to the Atlanta area to work at the Gwinnett County Solicitor’s Office. After working at the Solicitor’s Office for 4.5 years, Karen spent 5 years at the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s office, with the last two years as the managing attorney in the Special Victims’ Unit, which prosecutes sexual offenses and crimes against children, and disabled and elderly adults. Throughout her time as a prosecutor, Karen taught officers, prosecutors and civilians about the intricacies of the criminal justice system and about the individual crimes and defenses available in Georgia.
In 2018, Karen left prosecution to open Karen West Law, LLC where she has specialized in all levels of criminal defense from traffic violations to the most serious felony offenses. Karen also regularly defends clients in probation revocation hearings and represents clients in Temporary Protective Order (TPO) hearings. In addition to specializing in traffic and ordinance violations, misdemeanor, felony, and major felony offenses, Karen works closely with the Gwinnett County Drug Court, Mental Health Court, and Veterans Court and has developed a specialty in defending clients with addiction and mental health challenges. Karen thoughtfully represents her clients and continues to research, investigate, and negotiate her cases until she has achieved the best possible result for her clients.
